Do you check out Google’s list of top free Android apps this week? In case you missed, here’s a tour of the top five that got the most interest.

Another entry in Rovio’s continuing story of fighting fowls, Epic comes complete with weapons, bad guys, great hats and lots of magic. It has old timers Red, Chuck and Bomb. The scoundrels this time are the evil doers with green snout noses. You don’t want to miss this. Clearly the battle will be epic!

Weapons include swords and frying pans. But what will win the contest is the stick with the sponge on top. They get mean in this game, folks.

As always, the humor is quirky, just like the characters. It’s hard not to smile at an enraged bird with a prickly cactus hat on his head.

You have the option to upgrade this free app, with choices of characters, potions, armor and those amazing weapons. Though what could work better than a frying pan, I’m just not sure.

Since it is free, you can expect paid commercials. Parents should be aware that there are links to social media, to internet sites, ads for Rovio and its partners. And with an eye to the credit card bill, players can make in-app purchases.

This free app got a 4.6/5 star rating, with over 450,000 participating.

This app lets you listen to the music you love on your mobile or tablet. If you are already familiar with Spotify, you know it has a huge choice of albums, songs and artists. This app makes it easy to put together a playlist or choose one already made by the folks at the company.

In free mode, you have access to any of their artists, songs, playlists or albums. If you go Premium, you can also play any song at any time you choose and download music if you want to enjoy it offline. This option is ad-free.

The free app got a 4.5/5 star rating, with over 330,000 participating.

Number three this week is Bubble Witch. It is made by King.com, which also created Candy Crush Saga and Farm Heroes Saga.

The game follows Stella with her cats as they drive away the evil spirits afoot in this Candyland looking realm. The goal is to burst all the bubbles you can. The more you win, the higher your level and the more free acreage you get.

You can level up by using the in-app purchasing option, getting extra moves or even lives, which sounds good. I wonder if if that is transferable to real-time?

If you are familiar with Bubble Witch I, the developer says you will notice improved game modes in this edition. The graphics are top rate. Every two weeks you can add a new level to the game, up to 60 total.

This app got 4.3/5 star rating, with over 160,000 participating.

Totally appropriate with all the excitement over the World Cup, Soccer Stars lets you participate in your own virtual league.

You can take on opponents from around the world, using this convenient free app. Using Facebook and Google+, you can participate in worldwide tournaments. You can either team up or play against friends, both online and off.

It allows you to collect an array of well designed trophy cups. You can also collect a range of teams. The graphics are first-rate and involve high-end ball physics.

This free app got a 4.4/5 star rating, with over 24,000 participating.

Brought to you by social point, the creators of Dragon City, Monster Legends lets you test your skills against monster squads either on the Adventure Map or in the Monster Arena.

You can breed new types of monsters, over 50 of them, with a wide range of fighting skills. Each week new ones are released. The player has the ability to choose opponents, decide where to conduct the fights, which resources to use and different methods of protection to employ.

With each level of play, you unlock new worlds, complete with new monsters and new perils.
