After the first week of release Watch Dogs managed to sell an astounding 4 million copies. Although the game is fairly new to the market it is a commercial success. It wasn’t a surprise to learn that Ubisoft is currently devising a plan for a complete Watch Dogs franchise, with a chance of a sequel eventually being released.
Watch Dogs Franchise Details
Tony Key, Ubisoft senior vice president, spilled details to Gamespot about the upcoming franchise. “Creating a new franchise like that is the hardest thing to do in our industry because there’s so much risk involved,” Key said. “We’re incredibly happy with the sales of the game and the experiences that the people are having. So it’s a franchise. It goes into the franchise barn and now we figure out what to do next. It’s something that we can build on now.”
There’s already moves being made for a movie based on the very up and coming video game in conjunction with Ubisoft Motion Pictures. There is currently no information about a director or cast, however fans have asked for Tom Cruise to star as Aiden Pearce, lead character of the video game, in the movie.
Aiden Pearce of the popular video game, Watch Dogs, pictured here.Although a sequel is not confirmed, there is a huge chance for Watch Dogs 2 due to Ubisoft’s successful tactics of franchise (take Assassin’s Creed for example). “Any team that’s going to make a sequel is going to have to come up with something innovative and entertaining,” said Key. “Otherwise, the brand doesn’t grow. That’ll be the challenge for the guys, if and when they start talking about making another game.”
Watch Dogs Video Game Summary
Watch Dogs (also known as Watch_Dogs) took action, adventure, and stealth to a whole new level. Centered in a fictional Chicago, Illinois, main character Aiden Pearce is an exceptionally skilled grey hat hacker with the ability to hack into any device in the city at any given time. Aiden is able to take a hold of the entire city’s infrastructure and can either obtain/control information or destroy such devices at a set time. The initial release date was November 19th, 2013 but was pushed back to May 27th, 2014 for PC, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3, and PS4 consoles. A Wii U version has been confirmed but details regarding a release date is unavailable.
