Wii U owners who were hoping to see Watch Dogs, or 3DS owners who were hoping to see something new from Ubisoft at E3, will have to wait a little longer. A Ubisoft representative stated that “We won’t be showing off any Nintendo games at E3 this year.” Currently, Ubisoft has plans of showing Far Cry 4 and Assassin’s Creed Unity, as well as other unannounced titles at E3. This lack of Nintendo support must result from the 2013 holiday Wii U sales. Just last year, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot commented on Ubisoft supporting Nintendo and the Wii U, and said that they planned to support the Wii U and would review their commitment to Nintendo’s console at the end of 2013. This means that as of right now, the only title Ubisoft has planned for the Wii U is Watch Dogs, and even so that game will be a delayed release, with a projected release date of sometime this fall. Ubisoft hasn’t always been against the Wii U. Ubisoft was responsible for titles such as ZombiU, Just Dance, and Rayman Legends, (the latter was originally meant to be a Wii U exclusive.)

Ubisoft is just one of many third party developers that have abandoned the Wii U. It seems every time I look, there’s another developer jumping ship, and with the position Nintendo is in right now, they could use all the support and help they could get. While Nintendo themselves can make quality titles for the Wii U, they alone cannot create a full library of titles to satisfy the consumer. The 3DS will manage just fine without any new games from Ubisoft (at least for E3) but the Wii U library could use some help. Only time will tell if the Wii U can make a strong comeback, and E3 will certainly play a big role in deciding that.
