Japan is renowned for powerful and destructive earthquakes. It has also faced the disastrous wrath of the tsunami which played havoc in the northeastern region of Japan. In March 2011, Sanriku was the center of destruction after it was hit by an earthquake. Google Maps recently released the pictures of the Sanriku Coast, with an effort to make people realize the destructive force of nature. These pictures highlight the power of an earthquake. The images also help us to recall and remember the sad incident which changed the life of the people living in the particular area.
Google Maps covered an area of 400 kilometers in order to reveal the street view near the coastal area. It was done with the objective of recollection of the memories of this sad event. The locations featuring these pictures include Otsuchi, Minami-Sanriku in Miyagi and some other locations in adjacent areas.
Google also involved some local fishermen who allowed them to install cameras on their boats. This project took over ten months, from September to June. It enabled Google to preserve the disastrous consequences after the earthquake.
The images on Google Maps do not only reflect the disaster, but they also show the way people recovered after that incident. Google continued to record and document the facts after the earthquake. On October 20, Google Maps released the pictures featuring the landscape at sea view. These amazing and wonderful pictures could be seen on both, Google Maps and Google Earth.

What difference do these pictures make? Well, some people think that this is not the perfect way to show your solidarity with the victims of that incident. They take it as something irritating for the residents of that area. Everyone has the right to think the way he wants to. But most of the people will agree with the idea of releasing these pictures. This is a way to involve the whole world, so that people from different regions could share their grief with the victims.
Google Maps has taken a great step in order to demonstrate the solidarity with the locals. It has given people a platform in order to share their views. This is not about Japan in particular. This is basically the beginning. If Google keeps on covering the tragedies taking place anywhere in the world, it will allow people to come together and feel the pain and misery. There is nothing bad in it as the whole process provokes the emotional attachment of the people on the basis of humanity.
Google has taken a wise step because it signifies that people on the planet should join hands at least to show solidarity as a human being. Geographical boundaries might have divided us, but this is something precious because it is integrating different nations. Well done Google and congratulations to all those local residents who supported Google during this project. It signifies that the world has become a global village and we share the grief’s and joys regardless of our geographical distributions. Google has taken a step forward to unite people and we must welcome this approach.
