As you may have seen already, IGN’s game of the month is Halo: The Master Chief Collection. And with this, they are bringing out news every weekday until the end of the month. So, each week, I’ll be rounding up the newest information. All of this comes directly from IGN, and the page containing all this info can be found right here. There will also be the occasional rumors if they come up.
Halo: The Master Chief Collection Launch Day Playlists
So, to start off, 343 told IGN what the launch day multiplayer playlists are for the Master Chief Collection. They are as follows.
- Team Halo 2: Anniversary
- Halo 2: Anniversary Rumble
- Team Halo 2: Anniversary Social
- Team Slayer
- Big Team Battle
- Halo: Combat Evolved
- Halo 2 Classic
- Halo 3
- Halo 4
- Team Hardcore
- Halo eSports
- SWAT (Rotational)
Shockingly, Halo 4 is only playable in the Halo 4, Big Team Battle, and SWAT playlists. So, it’s clear that 343 is going back to focusing on arena multiplayer, showing that they understand how most fans feel about Halo 4’s multiplayer.
The Halo Channel App
343’s Kiki Wolfkill gave IGN a walkthrough of the upcoming Halo Channel, Xbox One’s version of Halo Waypoint. The full video can be watched here.
But, in the video, we see the basic functions of the Halo Channel. To start, we are shown how twitter is integrated in the app. The guide for the Halo Channel is always accessible. And all content is interactive in some way. The guide features a few different sections. These being, Featured, Queue, Originals, News, Games, E-Sports, and Play Halo.
There is also twitch integration, allowing you to watch official Halo streams at any time. For a full view of the Halo Channel, watch IGN’s video.
Warlock is the last Halo 2: Anniversary Map
Warlock, the popular Halo 2 map, is the final remade map for Halo 2: Anniversary multiplayer, now named “Warlord”. IGN shows off both a walk through of the map with Max Hoberman, original Halo 2 multiplayer designer, as well as 1080p/60fps footage of a match on the map, which can be seen here.
The Hornet is back
This news was actually not talked about too much, but the Hornet does make a return in Halo 2: Anniversary Multiplayer. A quick gif showcasing the new Hornet can be seen below.

A few more shots of the Hornet can be seen in this video.
Halo 2: Anniversary’s Campaign isn’t quite 1080p
343’s Dan Ayoub told IGN that even though every game in The Master Chief Collection runs at 1080p and 60 fps, the campaign for Halo 2 Anniversary doesn’t quite hit the 1080p mark. While it still runs at 60 fps, the native resolution for Halo 2: Anniversary’s campaign is 1328 X 1080. Frank O’Connor explained this on Neogaf, saying this.
“H2A is running higher res textures, geo, characters and animation AND running the OG engine at the same time.”
All 401 Master Chief Collection Achievements have been announced and detailed
That’s right. 401 achievements for a single game. The list of all of them can be looked over here.
So, what do you guys think of all this news? Excited for the remake of Warlock? What playlist will you be in on launch day? Does the fact that Halo 2 Anniversary’s campaign won’t be running at full 1080p matter to you? Are you excited for the return of the hornet? Leave your thoughts below.
