Why Fallout 4 is most likely being developed

by GH Staff

Yes, the hoaxes and rumors of late last-year have died out, more or less. Bethesda still seems set to keep Fallout 4 under wraps, and is far from being ready to share thoughts about a future continuation to the post-apocalyptic franchise. There are several solid reasons why we believe Fallout 4 is happening though. This isn’t Half Life 3, and Bethesda certainly isn’t Valve. The fans are craving for a chance to blow the heads off of Super Mutants once again, and there’s no logical reason why Bethesda shouldn’t oblige.

Okay, so 2014 will be a busy year for Bethesda. They have multiple projects lined up for release. The 4th of April will see the launch of Elder Scrolls Online, which, controversial as it might be, will be among the biggest MMORPG launches in a long time. Work will be on-going for months after release, with problems appearing at launch being ironed-out. In addition, the Playstation 4 and Xbox One versions of Elder Scrolls Online are also coming in June. In the meantime, Bethesda will be launching Wolfenstein: The New Order on the 20th of May, showing flexibility in genres and targeted audiences. Last but not least, the company is preparing to release The Evil Within on the 26th of August, completing their line-up for the first half of 2014.

But what about the second half of the year? With all major projects launching during the first half, Bethesda seems to have available resources to allocate towards Fallout 4. Nothing major is planned for the second half of 2014 for the company, which means there’s a good chance they will be focusing on Vault-dwellers a lot more. Of course, QuakeCon and E3 are also coming, and the company is expected to reveal something major. Fallout 4 thus seems like a safe bet. Additionally, with Skyrim still being bought and played (especially due to the extreme modding support), and the Elder Scrolls Online launching soon, there’s no real reason for Bethesda to create more competition for itself by working on a singleplayer Elder Scrolls VI title. Not yet in any case.

So, is Fallout 4 a given then? Definitely not. We’re not as naive as to be sure of anything anymore. We’ve been waiting for Half Life 3 for almost a decade, and there’s no indication that it’s becoming a reality yet. However, logic dictates that Fallout 4 is coming, sooner rather than later. In fact, we’re almost sure it’s already in development. The fact that Bethesda refuses to say anything about it somewhat confirms this. If there were no plans to make the game, they would have just outright announce that “we’re not working on Fallout 4”. This isn’t the case, which is yet another reason to believe it’s happening. It’s probably not coming out this year, but Bethesda has to show something big at E3 this summer, and Fallout 4 is likely to be it.
