Will Infamous Second Son Raise The Bar?

by GH Staff

Whether you chose to become a shocking menace to society or the electrifying champion of the people, your Infamous experience left you wondering if there would ever be more to the franchise and if so, how would it be done? Infamous Second Son rocked the worlds of Infamous fans across the globe when the first teaser was released. It let fans know that they haven’t seen the last of the conduits.  With Troy Baker as the main protagonist Delsin, Sucker Punch plans to build upon the foundation the first two Infamous games created and forge a series that will etch its name in the gaming hall of fame.

The first question fans might ask is whats the difference between Cole and Delsin? One huge difference between the two is that Cole was limited to powers somehow influenced by electricity. Delsin however has the ability to absorb powers from other conduits and use them as his own. It was shown that Delsin has the power of smoke and will at some point in the game absorb the power of neon from another conduit by the name of Fetch. An Infamous game just wouldn’t be as epic without epic battles between conduits or even teaming up with other conduits with unique abilities, so with that being said its safe to say that there will be more powers in the world that can be added to Delsin’s devastating arsenal.

Unlike Cole who was given the environment of fictional cities and places that were modeled after real world locations, Delsin’s story takes place in the real life city of  Seattle. inFamous Second Son’s game developers have taken remarkable steps to achieve the authentic, uncanny look of the city by going to Seattle to record birds in the morning and the sounds you may hear at night.  They also created authentic replicas of real world landmarks in Seattle such as the “Gum Wall” to give the player the feel of actually being in Seattle. Thanks to the new gen hardware the graphics of this game take a huge leap to perfection. Small details like puddles in the street and trash on the ground make an incredible impact on the overall realistic view of the world. Wet streets look amazing and the city is able to be fully traversed. Buildings that may look like a beautiful back drop are really just far away buildings that you have yet to get to.

Another thing about Delsin’s mysterious powers is that he can switch between them. Unfortunately, doing something like mixing neon and smoke powers for an incredibly unique attack is impossible as of now in inFamous Second Son, but you can strategically switch between the two during battle to inflict massive damage and put on quite a spectacular show. However there is a catch, you can only switch between powers depending on your surroundings. There is no button that switches between powers and no power wheel that allows you to rotate between them. The power you utilize depends on what power source you draw from at that time. For example, if you’re in a heated battle and you are using your neon powers but you feel smoke and flames would be more effective in battle, you could find some smoke or even damage a nearby car to cause it to emit smoke and absorb that energy to switch to your smoke powers. If you finish that battle with your smoke abilities but wish to return to your neon powers, find a sign with neon lights and absorb its energy to switch back to your neon powers.
