The Xbox One’s highly anticipated “killer app”, Titanfall, is releasing worldwide this week and gamers across the globe are waiting to see if the first-person shooter will live up to expectation. Redspawn Entertainment’s Titanfall lets players fight it out in multiplayer online only matches as either giant mechs called “Titans” or the pilots that control them. The multiplayer focused game comes hot on the heels of last year’s impressive E3 showing where it was given many “game of the show” awards.
With a release as big as this one, there’s a lot of buzz circulating around the game and naturally about how well it perform as far as sales numbers go. Titanfall has been available to the public for only a day so the jury’s still out on how well it will sell. Microsoft, however, is betting that the title will do extremely well. During a recent interview with Reuters, Yusuf Mehdi, Microsoft marketing executive took a strong stance on how confident they are about the game’s success:
“We’re making a big bet that ‘Titanfall’ is going to be a blockbuster launch for Xbox”. He also went on to say: “We don’t have a sales forecast for the game to share, but we expect it to be big for us”.
With the vast amount of Xbox One and Xbox 360 owners, along with the hype that has surrounded the game since it was first revealed last year, Titanfall is sure to have an audience big enough to sell well. The question is whether or not it will live up to Microsoft’s expectations. It’s too soon to tell with midnight launches still going on around the world but it won’t be long before we find out. Titanfall is out today and will release for the Xbox 360 on March the 25th.
