According to an anonymous retailer who has spoken with MCV, in the past week, Xbox One sales in the UK have managed to surpass those of its competition.

What has changed within the past week? Not much, other than a hefty price cut that the Xbox One saw exclusively in the UK, and the release of the latest entry in the much beloved FIFA series, FIFA 15.

Last week it was announced that the Xbox One would take another price cut, this time in the UK. The price dropped down to £330, which translates to $536.35 in the US.

In the last console generation, the Xbox 360 was the dominant console throughout the UK. However, this time around, the PS4 had already surpassed 1 million units sold in the UK, thus bumping it to the dominant console in the region. But now with the increased sales numbers of the Xbox One, it is possible that the PS4 may soon be relegated to its predecessor’s position within the region – second in sales.

So now that we know how the price cut may have factored in to the increase in Xbox One sales, you may be wondering what FIFA has got to do with anything.

Well, FIFA 15 which was released last week on September 26, was able to knock Destiny from the top of the UK sales charts. And while it is true that FIFA 15 did sell roughly 100,000 more units on the PS4 than it did on Xbox One; FIFA 15 was more heavily market for Xbox One, and also has a few exclusive features only available on the Xbox One versions of the game.

For example, Xbox One owners have EA Access at their disposal – something that a Sony representative was quoted saying in an email to Game Informer, “does not bring the kind of value PlayStation customers have come to expect.” EA Access allows Xbox One owners to purchase a digital version of the game at a discounted price, which may or may not have affected sales more than we know seeing as digital purchases are not monitored by the sales chart.

Xbox One owners also have access to the exclusive, Ultimate Team Legends mode, which was a key feature in Microsoft’s promotion of the game.

Regardless of what may have led to the jump in sales, in the UK, Xbox One is now in the lead. However, if past console generations have taught as anything, it is that the war is not over until the next console generation is being ushered in.
