Xbox One Will Get a “Surrealist Survival Horror” Game in Grave

Today Xbox One has begun to plan for their next-gen survival horror experience on the console. With the official announcement that Grave will be coming to the platform sometime in the future. Broken Window Studios recently placed up their company’s Kickstarter to rally some support for further development, but all you need to know is that the game was approved by Microsoft for its independent publishing program, ID@Xbox. Therefore Broken Window Studios reassured that the arid desert-themed Grave is “officially approved to launch on Xbox One.” Moving forward, the Kickstarer is still up and running for thirteen more days, if you’d like to participate in the game’s early development. The studio estimates that the game will be made accessible to the public in early 2015, if all goes according to plan.

In assumption, the game was previously alluded to being on the virtual reality headset Oculus Rift, which the studio entices the use of for the “truest form of what a first-person adventure game can be.” Since the Xbox One does not support the Oculus currently, we can assume that the VR function will is only be available for the PC release of Grave.

With such titles as Alien: Isolation beginning to release, it’ll be an uphill battle for Broken Window Studios; who promise that the experience is leaning towards a genre you don’t see too often in survival horror games. Gamespot was able to receive a comment from the development team, stating that: “We can’t make any additional console announcements at this time, but we are actively pursuing additional consoles and will make announcements as we are able,” evasively dodging the inquiry if  there’ll be PlayStation 4 support for Grave.

The final comment that the game developer spoke in accordance to Grave‘s creation as a horror experience is that he’s looking to, “scare the living crap out of players. My personal goal is to give people nightmares,” and perhaps that surrealist edge will work. Giving us a horror game that is unlike the various levels of competition out there, after all Amnesia: The Dark Descent was a great first step for an independent developer. Chances are Grave will follow in those colossal footsteps.

Below you’ll find the official GDC trailer as well as the demo of the game from Broken Window Studios.
