Crimson Desert Path of Trials Puzzle: Full Walkthrough and Frost Mantle Reward

Reach Path of Trials, survive its freezing route, thaw the power panel in lava, restore the Abyss mechanism, and unlock Frost Mantle.

Quick Answer

Path of Trials is the Frost puzzle after Crimson Desert’s Spire of Ringing Truth, Ether Rest, and Frostbitten Paradise sequence. Reach its Abyss Nexus, use the lanterns to manage the cold, remove the blue wall power block to open the warm room, thaw the frozen square power panel in lava, return it to the floor socket before it refreezes, and activate the circular device above. Restoring the area awards one Abyss Artifact and unlocks Frost skills, including Frost Mantle.

This route was checked on September 9, 2026 against three independent walkthroughs and Pearl Abyss’s official notes through version 2.01.00. The puzzle captures predate the Enhanced update, but the official 2.00.00–2.01.00 notes do not list a Path of Trials change. GamerHeadlines has not independently playtested the puzzle on 2.01.00.

What is the quick Path of Trials solution?

Pull the normal blue power block out of the exterior wall, carry the frozen square panel through the opened barrier, dip it fully into the lava until it glows, then move quickly back to the upper floor socket and seat it with Force Palm or Force Current. Activate the circular device above the socket and climb to the Abyss Artifact.

  1. Activate the Path of Trials Abyss Nexus.
  2. Light nearby lanterns so the cold does not disable the abilities needed for traversal.
  3. Cross the frozen area and enter the high opening beyond the far lantern.
  4. Go left through the passage to the exterior power mechanism.
  5. Use Axiom Force to pull the blue power block out of the wall. Leave it out; this drops the barrier to the warm interior room.
  6. Climb to the platform holding a frozen square power panel beside an empty floor socket.
  7. Carry the frozen panel into the warm room and lower it fully into the lava until it thaws and emits a blue glow.
  8. Return before it refreezes and place it in the square floor socket with Force Palm or Force Current.
  9. Climb to the circular mechanism above the socket and activate its center with the displayed Force controls.
  10. Climb to the restored platform and collect the Abyss Artifact.

PowerPyx’s Path of Trials walkthrough, VULKK’s independent guide, and Game8’s illustrated solution agree on the power-block, lava-thaw, socket, and final-device sequence.

How do you reach Path of Trials?

Start at the Spire of Ringing Truth, complete its restoration route, then finish Ether Rest and Frostbitten Paradise. Path of Trials is the next documented stop in that connected Skybridge chain.

Order Area Required progression
1 Spire of Ringing Truth Complete the Spire’s restoration challenge and continue through its connected route
2 Ether Rest Restore the area and continue through the connected route
3 Frostbitten Paradise Complete its restoration challenge and leave by the outbound Skybridge
4 Path of Trials Follow the fans, moving platforms, and teleport route to its Abyss Nexus

The walkthrough evidence does not support a single story chapter as a universal hard lock. Treat completion of the three connected areas above as the reliable prerequisite. Axiom Force, Force Palm, gliding or flight, sufficient stamina, and cold resistance make the route practical.

Route from Frostbitten Paradise

Continue past Frostbitten Paradise’s restored artifact platform and follow the moving-platform route through the triangular gate. Activate the pillar that starts the fans, ride the wall fans upward, and use the larger fans to cross between the tall structures. The route ends at another set of moving platforms and the Path of Trials Abyss Nexus.

Stay patient around the fans. Let each launch establish your height before gliding, and use Axiom Force only when you have a clear landing surface. The route is linear, but low visibility and the cold can make a missed platform expensive.

How do you survive the cold at Path of Trials?

Wear Ice or Cold Resistance gear if available, light every stone lantern you pass, and pause inside its warm radius before attempting a long crossing. Extreme cold can drain health and restrict the Force abilities required to reach the puzzle chamber.

  • Activate the Abyss Nexus before leaving the approach route and entering the frozen puzzle area.
  • Use the lanterns as checkpoints rather than trying to cross the whole frozen area in one movement chain.
  • Aerial Force Palm followed by a glide is the simplest documented way to cross the ice floes toward the far lantern.
  • Do not carry the thawed panel until the route back to its socket is clear.
  • If an ability becomes unavailable, warm up before assuming the puzzle mechanism is broken.

The cold affecting the player and the frozen power panel are related but separate problems. Lanterns keep the character functional; the corroborated method for restoring the panel is the lava.

How does the frozen power-panel puzzle work?

The first blue block is a barrier control, while the second square panel is the actual power source for the final mechanism. Removing the first opens the lava room; thawing and socketing the second powers the circular activation device.

Object What it does Correct action Common mistake
Blue wall block Controls the barrier to the warm room Pull it completely out with Axiom Force and leave it nearby Reinserting it before carrying the frozen panel through
Frozen square panel Powers the final device once active Carry it into the lava room and dip it until it glows Trying to socket it while it is still frozen
Floor socket Accepts the thawed panel Align the panel and seat it with Force Palm or Force Current Taking too long outside and letting the panel refreeze
Circular device Completes the restoration Climb to it and activate the center with the displayed Force action Leaving after the panel is inserted without triggering the device

The most important timing rule is that the panel can freeze again. Lower it far enough into the lava for a visible powered glow, lift it back to the upper level, climb up, and take the shortest path to the floor socket. If it arrives inert, return it to the lava rather than forcing repeated socket attempts.

Some walkthroughs use the terms battery, core, power source, and panel for the same square object. “Frozen power panel” is used here to avoid confusing it with equippable Abyss Cores.

What reward do you get from Path of Trials?

Completing Path of Trials awards one Abyss Artifact and unlocks Frost-element skills, including Frost Mantle. The unlocked Frost element can then be used through supported Imbue Element systems.

Do not assume that every post-completion skill is automatically equipped or purchased in the same way shown in launch guides. Crimson Desert Enhanced 2.00.00 revised skill progression and added Abyss Links. The restoration reward remains documented, but the exact 2.01.00 menu path and any current unlock cost should be read from the live skill interface rather than a pre-Enhanced screenshot.

Path of Trials is therefore both a progression puzzle and the Frost-element unlock step. The Abyss Artifact is the physical pickup at the end; Frost Mantle is part of the restored skill knowledge, not an item found in a separate chest.

Why is the Path of Trials puzzle not working?

First check warmth, the barrier block, the panel’s glow, and the final circular device. The documented failure points are being too cold to use a required ability, allowing the panel to refreeze, or not activating the restoration device after socketing the panel.

  • The entrance route is unavailable: complete Spire of Ringing Truth, Ether Rest, and Frostbitten Paradise in order.
  • Force skills are disabled: return to a lit lantern and warm up, then try the crossing again.
  • The lava-room doorway is blocked: pull the normal blue block completely out of the exterior wall.
  • The square panel does nothing in its socket: dip it fully into the lava and wait for the powered glow before carrying it back.
  • The panel stops glowing: it has likely refrozen; repeat the lava step and shorten the return route.
  • The socket is powered but the area is not restored: climb to the circular mechanism above and activate its center.

The reviewed walkthroughs corroborate the lava method for thawing the panel. Use that documented route rather than an unverified alternative.

Does this walkthrough still apply to Crimson Desert 2.01.00?

No Path of Trials-specific change appears in Pearl Abyss’s official patch history through 2.01.00, so the independently corroborated pre-Enhanced puzzle sequence remains the best documented solution. This is a changelog-based currentness check, not a claim of hands-on testing on the latest build.

The official 2.01.00 patch notes were published September 4, 2026 and apply across the listed PC, Mac, PlayStation, and Xbox releases. The GamerHeadlines patch summary covers the broader update, while the Monolith Crown guide solves a separate laser puzzle in the same Abyss-guide cluster. New players can use the Crimson Desert beginner guide for traversal and early progression.

Path of Trials FAQ

These answers cover the remaining route, skill, and reset questions without changing the supported solution above.

Is Path of Trials optional?

The reviewed walkthroughs establish that Path of Trials is required for its Abyss Artifact and Frost unlock, but they do not establish whether the chain is optional relative to the main story.

Do you need Ice Resistance?

Ice Resistance is strongly recommended but lanterns provide temporary warmth. The practical requirement is staying warm enough to retain the movement and Force abilities needed for the crossings.

Should you put the first blue block back in the wall?

No. Leave it out while transporting the frozen panel because removing it disables the barrier to the lava room.

How do you know the frozen panel is ready?

It should thaw and visibly glow after being lowered fully into the lava. If it reaches the socket without power, warm it again.

Does Path of Trials unlock Lightning or Frost?

It unlocks Frost. One IGN paragraph incorrectly says Lightning, but the same page’s reward table and the independent walkthroughs identify Frost; the article follows the corroborated reward evidence.

What should trigger a future guide refresh?

Recheck the route if Pearl Abyss mentions Path of Trials, Sleet Isles, Spire of Ringing Truth, temperature behavior, Axiom Force, Force Palm, Abyss Links, Frost Mantle, or Abyss Artifact rewards in a newer patch or known-issues notice.
