Bill Skarsgård will portray the lead role in PHYSINT, the upcoming action-espionage game from Kojima Productions, according to Xbox Wire. Hideo Kojima revealed the casting as a surprise at the very end of the Xbox Tokyo Game Show 2026 broadcast. The same event also featured Final Fantasy VII Revelation.
A Surprise Casting Reveal
Kojima presented a new PHYSINT poster featuring a photo he personally shot of Skarsgård alongside Charlee Fraser.
“I’m delighted to confirm the lead role for PHYSINT will be Bill Skarsgård,” Kojima said, adding that the costume fittings, scans, and camera tests with Skarsgård and Fraser earlier this year gave him “tremendous confidence in the direction of the project.”
An Ensemble Cast Taking Shape
Skarsgård joins an ensemble that includes Fraser, Don Lee, and Minami Hamabe. Kojima said further casting updates will follow in the future. The actor recently received strong reviews for his performance in Gus Van Sant’s Dead Man’s Wire (2026), and he next stars in Peter Berg’s The Mosquito Bowl and Andrew Niccol’s Lords of War opposite Nicolas Cage. Earlier this year he co-starred in The Death of Robin Hood (Michael Sarnoski, 2026) with Hugh Jackman and Jodie Comer.
Skarsgård gained international recognition as the clown Pennywise in It (2017) and It: Chapter Two (2019). His film credits include Nosferatu (2024), Barbarian (2022), The Crow (2024), Atomic Blonde (2017), John Wick: Chapter 4 (2023), The Devil All the Time (2020), and Boy Kills World (2023). On television, he recently starred in It: Welcome to Derry (2025), the It prequel series for HBO Max, where he reprised Pennywise and was an executive producer. Other TV credits include Clark (2022), Castle Rock (2018-2019), and Hemlock Grove (2013-2015).
Xbox Publishing Deal and OD (KNOCK) Update
Last week, Xbox and Kojima Productions announced that Xbox will publish PHYSINT. The move expands a relationship that already includes OD. The collaboration also extends beyond games, with the two companies working together across film and television. For OD (KNOCK), Kojima shared a development progress update with behind-the-scenes footage of stars Sophia Lillis and Hunter Schafer in a performance capture session.
