Square Enix gave players their first hands-on look at Final Fantasy VII Revelation at Tokyo Game Show 2026, with a combat-focused demo drawn from the main story. The final chapter in the remake trilogy, following Final Fantasy VII Remake and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, arrives on April 8, 2027 on PlayStation 5, as confirmed on the PlayStation Blog.
The demo covers the Whirlwind Maze, where winds howl across the cliffs, aurora-like ribbons of light cut through the darkness, and black-robed figures linger along the path. Traversal requires shimmying along cliff faces and vaulting over ledges with parkour, and the party reaches eight members once airship pilot Cid joins Cloud and the others at the start.
Vincent and Cid Join the Fight
Vincent fights in two styles: gunplay and monster transformation. Consecutive standard firearm attacks evolve his unique abilities from Blood Moon to Execration and then Retribution, gaining power relative to the hit count, and there is no need to manually aim. Holding R1 transforms him into a monster that moves on all fours and slashes with claws, while holding Triangle in monster form staggers enemies faster. Monster form is unlimited, but as time passes the Chaos level rises and reduces Vincent’s maximum HP.
Cid is a spear wielder who excels at airborne combat. Chaining standard attacks and pressing the button again when he is cloaked in a blue aura leads to derivative attacks like Dragon Spin, Hyper Dive, and Ground Pound, and his long spear sweeps groups of enemies. Pressing Triangle fires Target Spear, chargeable to launch up to five spears, and pinning enemies with spears empowers abilities like Skydive and Burst Spiral.
The FITS System Explained
The FITS (Function-Integrated Tactical Suitwear) System lets players choose from four specialized FITS: Warrior, Knight, Black Mage, and Summoner, each unlocking different capabilities based on the equipped uniform. Cloud started the demo with the Summoner FITS equipped, and selecting FITS during combat summons Ifrit, Shiva, Titan, and other beings to fight alongside him for a limited time. Selecting FITS again while a summon is active unleashes the high-damage Pledge Roar, which drains HP.
Jenova Death and What Waits Deeper In
The demo ends with a fight against Jenova Death, a creature from the original Final Fantasy VII that returns with a sinister redesign and a spiky body. It rains down wide-area Fire attacks including fireballs and scorching gusts, and midway through the battle its tentacles sprout and shield the main body until destroyed, then spew fire like flamethrowers. Combining Synergy Abilities and Limit Breaks brings it down. Tough foes like Dragon Riders and Gigas await deep inside the Whirlwind Maze, and Sephiroth himself appears toward the end of the demo.
