Risk of Rain 2’s Hallowed Concepts expansion is adding two new survivors, Enforcer and Acolyte. The Risk of Rain team detailed both in Dev Diary #4, published September 24, 2026.
Last year, the Risk of Rain team brought in a squad of elite mod creators, and they have been designing the new survivors for Hallowed Concepts. The team says it wanted to keep the classic Risk of Rain feel while carving out roles the Risk of Rain 2 roster has not had before. Risk of Rain 2 is not the only survivor game to add new playable characters through an expansion: Vampire Survivors did the same with its Legacy of the Bloodmoon expansion.
Enforcer
The team calls Enforcer “The Line,” a defensive vanguard built to be in the thick of a fight, with tools to survive a whole map of Lemurians bearing down on him. His Steel Protection active shield blocks everything while pointed at danger. Reactivating it at the perfect moment parries dangerous projectiles, sending them back at their owners, and knocks back and stuns nearby monsters.
Shield Tackle brings Enforcer into the center of the action. It has two charges, and the player can use both charges at once to power up the tackle and close distance. Rally Point smashes the ground, creating a shockwave that knocks enemies away and leaves behind a holdout zone that grants a barrier to allies. Each kill incrementally restores that barrier, keeping teammates alive.
Acolyte
Acolyte is a close-range glaive-wielder who dances around the battlefield, toying with the souls of her enemies and bargaining with her own. That melee-first approach mirrors another roguelike built around close-range melee combat, though the Risk of Rain team wanted to give players the option to choose more power at great cost.
N’Kuhana’s Grace changes how healing works for Acolyte. A portion of the health she loses is set aside for her to reclaim later, and incoming healing is fully diverted into that same reserve pool.
Her primary attack is a three-hit combo with a glaive. Mid-swing, she can sprint to lunge forward through a target, or jump to launch a target skyward with an uppercut. Bola Throw pulls the soul right out of whatever it hits. Her special, Sacrifice, marks an enemy and channels the power of the Death God through it, ripping the enemy apart in a burst of massive damage. Each kill earns more conviction, and the team teases more to come.
