Creepy Pokemon Portraits By Horror Manga Artist Junji Ito

Creepy Pokemon Portraits Junji Ito Gengar

The Pokemon Company in Japan is redefining spooky this month with their “Kowapoke” collection, showcasing Pokemon’s ghostly mascots, and offering goodies for purchase. The highlight of this collection is a special collaboration with Junji Ito, the Japanese master of horror, who is turning those loveable critters we all know and love into creepy Pokemon portraits in his showcase shuddery style. Just one look at the Gengar above is enough to give you nightmares (that woman will certainly need professional help).

This Banette picture below is equally creepy (la la, la la la…), and is available for download as a wallpaper for your phone and can be purchased as a t-shirt in Japan:

Leave it to the Japanese to take something loveable and cute and turn it into the cause of night terrors. Junji Ito is well known in Japan for his horror manga, including Uzumaki, or Spiral, a manga in which a town collectively becomes obsessed with spirals leading to all sorts of deeply unsettling scenarios and incidences of body modification and transformation. He is also responsible for Gyo in which fish invade the world on mechanic legs and infest cities with a “death stench.”

So far these are the only two pictures that have been released, but they seem to be trickling out so don’t expect the poke-nightmares to end so soon!
