EA Javelin Anticheat is now live in Apex Legends on PC, replacing Easy Anti-Cheat for PC players. Respawn is asking players to update the game before their next match, and the studio confirmed that some players are hitting matchmaking errors as the transition between the two anticheat systems takes hold on live servers. The change went into effect on September 29, 2026, the date EA previously set for the PC migration.
Matchmaking Errors and the Steam Recommendation
Respawn said it is aware of errors for some players as they move between systems and is actively working on a fix. For players who cannot match into a round, including “Party Not Ready” error messages, the studio recommends switching the launcher to Steam for a smoother game experience.
The migration does not require players to enable secure boot in their PC BIOS. Players download the update, install, launch, and play, and the new anticheat takes effect automatically once the update completes. While the update centers on the PC protection layer, EA said game integrity remains a multi-platform priority, with continued work on data models and server-side detection aimed at console-specific cheats.
Why the Anticheat Change Was Made
EA Javelin Anticheat gives the anticheat teams greater visibility into emerging threats and more flexibility to develop and improve detections as cheating evolves. The switch to EA Javelin Anticheat was first announced on September 24, 2026, with the change described as a PC anticheat solution that prevents and detects cheating while focusing on privacy and security. EA said the goal is a level playing field where results, progression, and success are determined by merit. In announcing the change, Respawn thanked the Easy Anti-Cheat team at Epic Games for a long partnership.
Track Record and Prior Enforcement
On titles that already use EA Javelin Anticheat, the solution has prevented millions of cheating attempts while maintaining an accuracy rate of over 99 percent. Bringing anticheat engineering, telemetry, and data capabilities together in-house gives EA’s teams a faster way to detect and respond to cheating across platforms. The anticheat switch also follows earlier integrity work in Apex Legends, including the action that suspended 258 Predator players for account sharing.
