In an age where all three major console brands are pushing to be more developer friendly, one major director has cast his lot with Nintendo. Platinum Games’ Yusuke Hashimoto, director of Bayonetta 2, said in an interview with CVG during this year’s E3 conference, that Nintendo’s feedback to the game was critical to increasing its quality.
“I feel that it’s important to let your creativity flow and Nintendo has been able to provide us with the freedom to do what we had originally envisioned,” explains Hashimoto-san. “I feel that was really good and helped push Bayonetta 2 to even higher quality.”
The developer also alluded to the role Nintendo may have in the shaping of Bayonetta 3, if one were to come about, saying: “If possible we would love to do it again and keep nurturing our child.”
Bayonetta 2 is set to be released this October as a Wii U exclusive, and is similar in style and pacing to such titles as Devil May Cry and Metal Gear Rising. The hypersexualized and intensely violent combination, emphasizing gameplay is a departure from games typically available on Nintendo platforms.
Continued collaboration on future titles, coupled with Nintendo’s cooperation with Tecmo Koei on the similarly styled Hyrule Warriors, may signal a new willingness to accept third party developers who wish to explore this genre on Nintendo platforms. Stay tuned.
