Fallout 4 Bethesda trademark filing fake

Earlier today, GamerHeadlines reported on a story regarding intriguing German trademark filings related to the much beloved Fallout franchise – Fallout: Shadow of Boston and Fallout: Ultimate Collection, respectively – which were apparently filed by Bethesda Softworks.

While Bethesda’s German trademark applications for Fallout: Shadow of Boston and Fallout: Ultimate Collection initially appeared fairly legitimate, it appears that the aforementioned filings are nothing more than well-executed, yet cruel hoax (in the vein of the now-infamous Survivor 2099 incident earlier this year) against gamers anxiously awaiting any snippet of news related to Fallout (or more likely, Fallout 4).

According to Bethesda Softworks’ official Twitter account, the prominent game publisher/developer has confirmed the recent German Fallout trademark filings are indeed fake.

Read more details on the recent Fallout trademark filings and Bethesda’s tweet in regards to them after the break.

Bethesda Confirms Fallout Trademark Filings Are Fake

Bethesda Softworks’ tweet in question can be seen immediately below:

As clearly stated by Bethesda, the recent German Fallout trademark filings are fake. While that is unfortunate, it is to be expected, seeing as Bethesda is consistently and notoriously tight-lipped when it comes to new information on new games.

However, it does beg the question: If the Fallout trademark filings didn’t come from Bethesda’s offices…where did they come from? And why?

In related news, Pete Hines, vice president of Bethesda Softworks, responded to a question from a fan about the possibility of new information on Bethesda’s new game. In typical Bethesda fashion, Hines stated that fans shouldn’t expect new information “anytime soon.”

What are your thoughts on where the recent Fallout trademark filings originated? Is it simply someone doing it for the sake of their own twisted entertainment, or is it something else? If so, what could it be?
