Diablo 3 will never get Cross-Platform support and console gamers aren’t getting PC’s season content
Over the weekend Diablo 3’s Lead Designer Kevin Martens explained to GameSpot why Diablo 3 will not be getting any Cross-Platform support and that console gamers won’t be getting the PC’s Seasons.
No Seasons are coming to Diablo 3 console gamers when patch 2.1 eventually arrives.
The reason Martens gave for Diablo 3’s lack of Cross-Platform support is because “We didn’t build it that way, so the two ecosystems are closed. I’m trying to give you the most definitive, least PR answer there is, and that is no, we can’t do that. What the Xbox and PlayStation networks do is different than what Battle.net does.” The “ecosystems” is also the reason why console gamers won’t be able to take advantage of the upcoming Seasons, which is coming in Patch 2.1 and allows players to get rewards for levelling up their characters in a limited time.
According to Martens consoles won’t be getting Seasons once patch 2.1 eventually comes out because “Seasons requires always online, and that’s one of the major differences in the ecosystems there,” and that “For seasonal conquests and things to be what they are, everyone has to be playing on the same leveled field. That’s a great example for something that doesn’t work for consoles.”
While console gamers won’t be getting Seasons Marten did reveal that consoles gamers will be able to do somethings that PC gamers can’t such as gifting rare loot to friends. The reason why PC gamers won’t be allowed to gift rare loot can be brought back to the ill-fated Auction House system and that according to Marten “On the PC side, given the history of it and the auction house and all that, we took out trading of the most powerful items, Legendaries, unless the other player was there when it dropped,” he said. “Instead, we replaced it by just being way more generous with stuff so people don’t miss that“.
