2014 has seen the announcement and release of some of the best smartphones ever seen in the market. Google have plans to roll out the next phone in their Nexus series, the Nexus 6 while LG also released LG G2’s successor, the G3. These two are remarkable phones that any phone lover would want to have. But how exactly do they compare?

Design

The G3 is 5.76 x 2.94 x 0.35 inches while Nexus 6 is 6.27 x 3.27 by 0.40 inches. From these dimensions, they are both relatively large phones although the Nexus is slimmer, and it is also splash resistant.

Display

The two screens are 0.5 inches apart with the smaller one being that of the G3 at 5.5 inches. Despite this difference, they have the same 1440 x 2560 pixels resolution. They also have an impressive pixel density to match their large sizes. That of the Nexus is 493 ppi while the G3 has 538 ppi.

Camera

It is not easy to tell apart pictures taken by these two masterpieces because their cameras are closely matched. Both of them have 13 MP rear cameras with dual Led flashes. In terms of aperture size, the two are also close. G3’s camera has F2.4 while Nexus 6’s is F2.0. They also can record 4K videos at 30 fps. To complete this rear camera experience is a 2.1 MP front facing camera on G3 and 2.0 MP on Nexus 6.

Hardware and Operating System

This is where you will certainly get spoilt for choice. Both phones have outstanding hardware. They are both powered by Quad core processors although clocked at different speeds. The Nexus has a Krait 450 processor running at 2700 MHz while the Krait 400 found on the G3 is clocked at 2500 MHz. To crown this processing power is 3 GB RAM on both devices. Just like its predecessors, Nexus 6 does not allow for storage expansion although it comes with 64 GB or 32 GB of in-built storage compared to G3’s 32 GB. The LG being an older version is shipped with android version 4.4.2, KitKat. On the other hand, Google uses the Nexus series as flagship devices for new android versions and the Nexus 6 is no exception since it will ship with android version 5.0, Lollipop.

Battery

There is a 220 mAh difference between the two batteries with that of the Nexus being larger at 3220 mAh. They are both in-built batteries.

Price

Today, you can buy LG G3 for about $603. Although Google may not have released the official price for the Nexus 6, it is expected to surpass that of its predecessors. It will retail at about $649 for the 32 GB variant and $699 for the 64 GB one.

Verdict

Choosing between the yet to be released Nexus 6 and LG G3 is an uphill task. Both phones have impressive features although the Nexus seems to edge the G3 a bit. Again, this being Google’s flagship device for Lollipop, it is a must have for android fanatics.
