Remedy Entertainment has shared new PlayStation 5 details for Control Resonant, its upcoming sequel to Control. The game launches September 24 and takes place in a twisted version of Manhattan. According to a PlayStation.Blog post by Communications Director Thomas Puha, the studio built the game with 60fps performance in mind and is using the DualSense controller to strengthen combat. Remedy says it built new technology for its proprietary Northlight engine to achieve the game’s ambitions while keeping a close eye on performance. The goal was to make the game look and perform its best on PS5, whether players prioritize graphics or performance.
Performance and Quality Modes
On PS5, Control Resonant offers Performance mode targeting 60fps at 1440p and Quality mode targeting 30fps at 2160p. On PS5 Pro, Remedy uses PSSR and provides three modes: Performance at 60fps and 2160p, Quality at 30fps and 2160p with ray tracing, and Balanced at 40fps and 2160p with ray tracing for 120Hz-compatible displays. Puha noted that Remedy prioritizes art direction and the overall visual experience over resolution details, but still takes full advantage of PS5 power.
DualSense and Immersion
Remedy says gameplay feel and responsiveness are top priorities. The DualSense adaptive triggers are used to give Dylan’s paranatural combat abilities a tactile feel. Abilities like Barrage, which launches projectiles, and summoning a Volatile Anomaly, a turret-like ally that can be thrown and detonated, provide different levels of resistance when activating them. 3D Audio support is also included for compatible headsets, adding another layer of sonic immersion.
Zones, The Gap, and Story Length
Control Resonant’s Manhattan is split into visually distinct Zones, each with its own look. Fast travel between them is near-instantaneous, as is traveling to the Gap, a liminal space within Dylan’s mind he can access at will. In the Gap, players can unlock upgrades for Dylan and his shapeshifting weapon, the Aberrant, test builds, craft Artifacts, and more. The main story takes 25 to 35 hours to complete, with more for completionists. On PS5, Activities track main story quest progress, and Game Help will be available post-launch. Control Resonant launches September 24.
