Destiny was officially released today, and many people are already enjoying it on Xbox One, PS4, Xbox 360 and PS3. I’ve had enough time with it to be confident in my first impressions. This is not a solid review, but we will try our best to get one out in the next few days! So, onto my first impressions. I played on Xbox One, and here’s what I thought!
After playing Destiny for a good 6 hours, I have to say, I’m very pleased with the game overall. It’s graphics are very clean and crisp, it plays well in terms of FPS, and it stays interesting over long periods of time. I also had no problems with the servers the entire time I played. Seamless connection the whole time, and never got any network lag of any kind. Also didn’t run into any bugs or glitches, which is very impressive for a game of this size. Overall, the game itself feels very polished, and can be called a full game.
The combat is also very good. It remained interesting to me for the entire time I played, and I’m ready to get back on and play some more once I’m finished writing this. And frankly, this surprised me. I expected I would play it for a while and get bored, heading back to Warframe or Battlefield. But, this is not the case. I simply cannot wait to go through more of this game.
The levels can get a bit repetitive, like some levels on the Moon, where you start at the same exact area for 3 missions. You also see the same area over and over. Though this isn’t really a big problem, you really don’t notice it. But, it’s still important to note it. The game is still big, but it’s not as big as it was hyped up to be. But, it’s not something that should pull you away from the game.
I played Story missions only on my run through, and haven’t gotten myself in a PvP game yet. But, so far, I think the purchase would have been justifiable with just the Story/Raid missions, as they deliver enough content to keep me happy. The PvP is simply a welcome addition, even though I wasn’t particularly fond of it in the beta. I will of course give it a second chance, because being Bungie, I have to have some belief that the PvP multiplayer will be great.
Destiny, at it’s core, is fun. The gameplay is interesting, and remains that way even after an extended period of play time and a lack of sleep for the player. The Tower, which is the main hub for everything from buying weapons to dancing with other players, is fun to explore. The different worlds and levels have very distinctive designs, even if they are smaller than hyped up to be. But, overall, it’s a great game. If you played the Alpha or Beta, you should have a well formed opinion of the game. But if you haven’t, give the game a chance. It’s fun to play solo or with some friends, and never seems overly difficult.
