Hearthstone Tips & Tricks: How to get better at the game

by GH Staff

If you are one of the many Hearthstone fans that have access to the game’s closed beta and you are searching for quick tips and tricks on how to get better you’ve came to the right place. In the next article of our series, we will be taking notes on some of the most important tips and strategies that every Hearthstone beginner should know.

Learn The Cards

The first thing every Hearthstone player should do, if they want to climb the ranking ladders is learn the cards. Even if you are not able to afford to buy a huge amount of decks, don’t worry – the internet got you covered with a full card database. Once you are aware of all the cards that are available in the Hearthstone universe you should be able to think over your strategy better. If you are a real beginner you could head over to the official Hearthstone YouTube channel or watch a streamer on Twitch.tv – by watching and listening carefully you could also learn a lot about the available cards and strategies in the meta game.

Be Prepared

Much like we talked back in our Hearthstone deck building tutorial, knowing exactly what you could be up against is important. If you don’t have an idea of what your opponent might be holding in his hand, how would you know exactly how to play?

Don’t Stick to One Character

One of the major mistakes most Hearthstone beginners do is to stick to one character. If you want to learn the game better, the cards and the strategies, the easiest way is to play a lot of games with the whole variety of characters – from Mage to Warlock. Once you take your time and go through all of the available classes you will note a significant change in the way you perceive the gameplay as a whole.

Board Control

Board Control – remember this. In a hearthstone duel everything comes down to luck and board control. If you don’t want to rely on luck then you should always be seeking control of the field. The way you will take the board from the opponent is up to you and the way you are using your strategy, but remember that you should not be wasting mana in the early game and you should do everything to manage to gain control over the board.

Don’t rely on the Late Game – The First Hand is Important

Another mistake most players do is keep cards in their opening hand with huge mana cost, just so they know that they will have them in the late game. However, keep in mind that there are quite a few strategies out there that are focused on an early game win. Make sure you don’t throw away a good starting card either. Always be looking out for what you could be playing against, based on your opponents class and never think that you can get away with early game fouls.

Plans A, B and C

If you are able make sure you build your deck in a way that even if your main strategy doesn’t succeed you have a back up plan. Know that despite the huge chances of you getting just the right card, luck may turn on you. Be prepared and have various ways to regain control and win the game even in the most unwilling of situations.

The game should be getting into its Open Beta phase soon enough, but if you haven’t yet opted in for the closed beta you could do so as you will surely receive an early access. Hearthstone is a true phenomena in gaming and eSports and could become more than a game for you if you are good enough. Be sure to follow the tips and tricks and if you have just the right skill you may quickly become one of the best Hearthstone players.
