Instagram and Flickr are two popular photo sharing sites that allow users to display and edit photos for their own personal use. While both sites offer similar services to people they each have their own unique way of presenting images on the web. First up is Instagram. This photo-sharing site debuted on October 6, 2010. The site is designed for mobile technology as well as PC use. It also has video and social media elements. Instagram is closely linked with the biggest social media sites which include Facebook, Twitter and Tumblr. Users can upload pictures to their profile and use the tools provided by Instagram to alter their pics into images that they enjoy seeing.
Most of the people that use Instagram are young females that live in suburban areas. There are close to 150 million registered users with Instagram. Famous celebrities use their Instagram accounts to reach out to fans and the site uses different themes and trending topics to capture user feedback and interaction.
Flickr
While it is true that people can share images on Flickr the site is designed more for displaying photos instead of swapping them. This organization also has a prominent online community that consists of nearly 10 million users. The site features some photo editing software that allows users to alter and transform pictures and there is a social media element as well.
Flickr went live on the internet ion February 10, 2004. Since that time it has been linked to major social media sites such as Myspace, Facebook and Twitter. Flickr is not as big as Instagram and both of these sites have been known to share social media elements and pictures between each other. Flickr encourages people to use tags for their pictures and they desire for people to create albums for their work. The majority of people that use Flickr are young women who live in urban areas.
Both of these photo sites offer great resources for people to share and store photos. However, Instagram is up-to-date with features and interactivity. Not to mention, Instagram is also a lot more popular than Flickr. While Flickr is not as popular as Instagram it still is able to remain competitive from the services and features that it offers. Both sites are free to use by people who are at least 16 and over. Ultimately, the best app to use between the two sites would be Instagram because more people are connected to this site than on Flickr.
