Google’s going to give TV another try.
This time around, they’re going with something called Android TV. Android TV was unveiled at Google’s I/O conference earlier today in San Francisco. Google tried to corner the TV market before with Google TV, but with little success. This time the company is aiming to cover many kinds of media and entertainment in hopes of reaching a bigger audience and, no doubt, bringing in more money. Android TV certainly does have more to offer.
It will allow users to switch easily between TV, apps like Netflix and items that have been downloaded from the Google Play Store. Android TV will work with smart TV’s and game consoles, so far. Google search will be usable, and for more than just movies. The search engine will be able to look up whatever you type in, beyond the topic of film and TV. Gaming will also be a possibility, with multiplayer available. Apps made only for Android TV will come into existence sometime this fall.
This is a lot better than what Google had to offer the first time around, but there are many other companies to compete with, now, including Amazon and Apple.
If a household already owns this type of media, will they bother to run out and buy what Google has to offer now?
