Following their recent Mac laptop tag slashes, Apple has also lowered its iPod Touch 5th Generation price offering as well. The new build offers full 1080p video recording, fresh color choices, and most importantly, a lower price point. The 16GB model now retails for just $200 compared to the former $230. As for 32GB and 64GB, those cost $250 and $300 respectively. If you’ve been keeping score, that’s as much as $100 savings on the most premium model!
As far as colors are concerned, you’ll be able to select from pink, yellow, blue, silver, space gray, and red. With the inclusion of space gray, the “gateway iPhone device ” is becoming increasingly similar to its more costly (and popular) mobile counterpart.
Other than those few tweaks, everything else about the cheaper iPod Touch remains the same. You’ll still be stuck with an aged A5 processor, and just 512MB of DRAM. The good news however, is that this slightly updated device is fully compatible with iOS 8 when it arrives on the download servers for free in the Fall.
If you happened to miss some of those past iOS announcements, it basically means this revised Touch variation will have the ability to make use of several new features. These include the chance to install custom keyboards from the App Store, and instant multitasking with a Mac using Handoff.
