After last months announcement that The Amazing Spider-Man 2 video game will be released on the Nintendo 3DS, there has been almost no information about the movie tie in game. However, over the last few days news surfaced that the Xbox One version of the game may be canceled or delayed. The initial reports of the delay came from GamersHonestTruth: they noticed that EB games’ Australia stores have canceled the preorders of the Xbox One version. On top of this, a Neogaf post showed that an official website advertisement for The Amazing Spider-Man 2 does not include the Xbox One port.
The Xbox One version has been removed from advertisements.
In response to these recent reports, Activision has released the following statement to MCVUK: “We want to inform you that we are revising our release plans for ASM2 on Xbox One. When and whether ASM2 is released on Xbox One is TBD.” This vague comment did not seem to ease the worries of Xbox One owners: the phrasing, along with the impending release date, shows that this port is more likely to be canceled than rescheduled. Now, add the fact that this is supposed to be a movie tie in game and it shows that Activision has a small window to figure out what they will do with the Xbox One edition. With this said, the media speculation has resulted in an Activision representative releasing another vague statement that attempts to update the public:
“We are working with Microsoft in an effort to release The Amazing Spider-Man 2 video game on Xbox One. Currently, the game will be available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii U, Nintendo 3DS and the PC on April 29, 2014 as previously announced.”
But again, even though the cancellation of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 for the Xbox One is unconfirmed, the window is slowly closing for that particular version: Activision needs it to be released around the movie to maximize its success. Hopefully, the game will be released as intended, but if not, you can pick it up for other consoles on April 29th.
