The recent years have seen an explosion in the introduction of smartphone apps from some large companies as they are of great benefit to both the producer company and the customer. Microsoft seems to be eager to use these apps to reach its potential customers together with expanding its business. This has been drawn from the fact that there has been an increase in downloadable apps.
Skype program which is owned by the Microsoft is the new app which has been announced by Microsoft. Using this app, users have the allowance to freely connect to family and friends through voice and video calls. Despite the fact that there is a subscription service you have to pay for the program, many users will find that there are some features which are good and finely suit them and are in the free version of the programs software. This new app is known as “Skype Qik” and gives users the allowance to create videos and send them to their people up to 42 seconds length. This app seems to contain some features that are included in the video messaging apps which exists and are currently available in the market for mobile messaging such as the Vine app which is owned by Twitter and the messaging service; Snapchat.
The messages send using “Skype Qik” can have a length of up to 42 seconds which is a little bit longer when compared with the videos send using the ‘Vine’ which ranges between 6-7 seconds. The period of time which the video will take to be seen by the recipient clocking in at 2 weeks is carried over to the increase in the length of time. This amount time is said to be a lot more substantial to that of the Snapchat app which gives the recipient no more time other than to delete the video or image immediately after being viewed by the receiver.
Currently, the “Skype Qik” is available for Microsoft windows phone, Google’s Android phones and IOS. Snapchat app which is yet to be officially supported for the operating system of mobile windows makes “Skype Qik” to have a good and all rounded spread.
Recent competitors which include Viber among others have received a lot of attention and praise over the recent for the features it has a as compared to Skype and this has made this development not surprising as it may seem to be. Microsoft has introduced this app for mobile devices with the aim of competing with other video messaging apps which we have today such as Snapchat and the successful whatsApp. Despite the fact that some applications such as WhatsApp are being bought for billions of dollars by Facebook, Microsoft is however eager to take part in the competitive market sector.
