It’s been awhile since fans of the Resident Evil franchise have gotten a quality game. Luckily, it seems the next Resident Evil game is indeed in the works, and there’s a good chance we’ll be seeing it at E3 2014, which kicks off in just a few days. The source of this rumor is the NeoGAF user News Bot, a users known for reliable and trustworthy leaks. While this is a rumor at this point, and nothing has been officially confirmed, it’s a sensible one, and given the reliable background of News Bot, we’re pretty excited.
The rumor suggests that the upcoming Resident Evil game will not be a direct sequel to Resident Evil 6 (as in it won’t be RE 7), but would rather be a spin-off and a new take on the story-line, with some characters we haven’t seen in a long time. “There are three returning characters. Two female and one male. Two haven’t been seen in over a decade and one has never had an “in-game” appearance. Guess away. That’s more than enough.” explains the source, providing solid hints, but nothing specific. “Regarding the one who doesn’t appear in-game, I should be a little more specific(because I’m sure someone will call me a liar for being too general). They are mentioned in games but are a background character with no “active” appearance yet. It’s not someone from the movies/comics.” he continued.
This pretty much rules out previous rumors that were suggesting the movie franchise’s Alice will be a core part of the new game. Other reliable leak sources have hinted at a continuation of Resident Evil: Revelations. More and more sources are confirming that a new Resident Evil will in fact be revealed at E3 2014, and that fans will not be disappointed and will have something solid to look forward to.
Luckily, E3 is right around the corner, and we’re likely to find out more in the coming days. What would you like to see from the next Resident Evil game, and what characters do you think the game will revolve around? Sound off in the comment section below!
