Starry Studio’s Once Human development team has revealed that the October 21 (PT) version update will add one brand-new weapon and one brand-new armor. The additions are the SOCR – Cosmic Visitor weapon and the Snowline Elite Vest. According to the announcement, which opens by addressing players as Metas, the update centers around the Frost Vortex and Ice Spear mechanics and is meant to enrich the combat performance and build options for Frost-related playstyles. The team also said it hopes to bring some new changes and freshness to the combat experience. Once Human is a free-to-play open-world survival game that launched in July 2024.
The reveal follows the recent 3.0.7 bug fix patches for Once Human, which repaired cosmetic issues and a PC shop lag problem.
SOCR – Cosmic Visitor weapon effects
The SOCR – Cosmic Visitor keys its combat effects to Frost Vortex and Ice Spear. A weapon hit has a chance to generate a Frost Vortex, and the first hit after reloading is guaranteed to trigger that effect. After hitting enemies a certain number of times, the weapon fires an Ice Spear that locks onto the target, then explodes and deals damage when it hits.
Two more conditions produce automatic Ice Spear attacks. When a Frost Vortex is generated, the weapon fires a certain number of Ice Spears that automatically attack targets within sight. The same automatic attack occurs when a target is killed, though that trigger has a short cooldown. The developers note that the Ice Spear is an Ice Construct and benefits from the corresponding Keyword VFX, which places it in the game’s keyword system.
Snowline Elite Vest armor effect
The Snowline Elite Vest activates when a Frost Vortex is generated. Its key effect makes the Frost Vortex’s triggered effects activate one extra time, without generating an additional Frost Vortex. Each Frost Vortex generated increases Frost Vortex damage. The bonus caps at five stacks, and each stack lasts five seconds.
Alongside the new gear, the developers continue to collect player input through their Meta Hotline series, including the Meta Hotline Vol. 10 developer feedback post.
