Prototype Device Lets you Play PS4 with your Eyes

Whilst at this year’s Game Developers Conference, a writer from Wired was introduced to Sony’s eye-ball tracking technology behind closed doors at its booth. The technology – being worked on by the company’s Magic Labs research and development group – is inferred to be later integrated with the PS4 console.

The technology was demoed with a specially tweaked copy of the PS4 exclusive InFAMOUS: Second Son. During the demo, the writer was able to look around the in-game world just by using his eyes. If he want to shoot or aim at a target, all  he had to do was focus his gaze on to it.

The eye-tracking technology itself, in its current state, is described as “a thin yellow bar that looks like a thinner version of a Kinect camera and sits in front of the monitor.” Despite it being held behind Sony’s booth, the device wasn’t developed the company itself. According to Wired, the device was created by the SensoMotoric Instruments, a German company.

The eye-tracking device is said to allow for enterprise customers and OEMs to easily integrate remote eye tracking into other products and applications, according to a press release given out by SensoMotoric last week. One of them evidently being the PS4.

For more information on this eye-tracking device, head on over to SensoMotoric Instruments official website.
