PS4 Call Of Duty: Advanced Warfare Will Be ‘Definitive Version’, Insider Claims

by GH Staff

Last week, Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare was teased and then announced ahead of the scheduled date of May 4th, due to a leak. So far we’ve seen several images and interpretations of the reveal trailer, but this new bit of information is very intriguing. Usually, Call of Duty games tend to be the ‘best’ on Xbox 360 and the developers favor the console, hence why the push out DLC for Xbox 360 first, up to a month before the PS3 and PC get it. However, this time, according to an insider, the lead platform for Call of Duty will be PS4, not the Xbox One.

The industry insider’s name is Ahsan Rasheed, known as ‘thuway’ on NeoGAF forums, and he made a tweet saying “Also I want to say one thing to all the Xbox One fans that keep telling me COD is X1 lead platform. It’s not. It’s a marketing deal.” This statement implies that Xbox isn’t necessarily the ‘best’ platform for COD but merely the ‘preferred’ one due to a deal between Microsoft and Activision. He explains this by saying “Here’s the part you should pay attention to. Developers inside Infinity Ward prefer the PS4. Majority will use it to play at home.” He mentions ‘Infinity Ward’ who actually isn’t developing Advanced Warfare, since Sledgehammer Games is. But he might be suggesting that Infinity Ward may favor PS4 for development, such as with Ghosts for example, which could also infer that Sledgehammer Games prefers PS4 as well.

Rasheed then says “Put that inside your head. The developers who made the game. Majority will play the game on PS4 at home with friends.” This is quite the bold thing to say, as it implies that there will be a big shift from predominantly Xbox players of COD to PS players, and that Advanced Warfare will be bigger on PS4. Rasheed finished his comments with “If you think the PS4 version won’t be the definitive console version technically, I have some bad news.”

Now of course, all of this is merely speculative statements or possibly rumors. There’s no clear indication of whether or not Sledgehammer Games is favoring the PS4 over the Xbox One in terms of development and the DLC first for Xbox is still continuing. On the other hand, it’s undeniable how well PS4 is doing in terms of sales, hardware consistency and favor with the fans. What do you think? Will this be the first year that Call of Duty is bigger on PlayStation?

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare is in development for Xbox One, PS4, PC, Xbox 360 and PS3, for a November 4 2014 release date.
