Back in March, Diablo 3‘s auction house was disabled. This probably shouldn’t come as a surprise — it was the centre of much complaint and controversy since 2012. The creators of the game say that the issue lies in the fact that the auction house takes away form the point of the game: exploring and looting. With the ability to simply buy everything a player needs, there isn’t always much point in taking the world in, playing through the plot, and enjoying Diablo 3 like the game that it is. The creators see the auction house as a huge miscalculation, never imagining it would be as well-used as it was. They didn’t imagine players would want to spend real money on the gaming world. There wasn’t much reason not to use the auction house, though, ultimately, if it meant getting through the game more efficiently.
After the auction house closed, a message would explain to players that they had until June 24th to finish up any auction-oriented processes they still had to get through. Items went, of course, either to the highest bidder, or they were returned to the seller, showing up in their “completed” tab. If a player doesn’t bother to pick their item up, it will disappear into cyberspace, or as Blizzard put it, the items will be taken away by Treasure Goblins. However you want to put it, the bottom line is that there will be no way to get them back after the 24th of June.
Gold will also appear in the “completed” tab for retrieval. Real-life transactions will be fulfilled as normal.
If you still need to go get your items and gold, time is of the essence — soon they’ll slip through your fingers forever … Or you’ll have to grind for them all over again.
