First off lets look at the specs of each phone by category.
General:
The first category is pretty even with both phones operating at 850/900/1800/1900,MHz, HSDPA except for the Lumia’s ability to operate a 850 MHz, LTE.
Dimensions:
Owners who prefer larger screen size will certainly prefer the Nokia Lumia (162.8 x 85.4 x 8.7mm) with it’s 6’’ , display compared to the Z1’s 5’’ (144 x 74 x 8.5mm). Ask anyone, size matters, every inch.
Weight:
Proportional to their size, the Nokia’s 209g outweighs the 170gs of the Z1. But who wants to lift weights all day?
Colors:
Personalization means a lot to people now-a-days. You want to feel like what you have is yours and yours alone. You can customize your 1520 Lumia’s colors to be yellow, white, black and red while Z1 has the options of black, white and purple.

Nokia’s Lumia 1520 runs on the Microsoft Windows Phone 8 Black OS (Operating System) and HTML5 Browser.
Sony’s Xperia Z1 ,however, runs on the Adroid, 4.3 (Jelly Bean), HTML (previous ver.) and also has Java.
Camera:
Love photography? Chase sunsets, storms, deer?

**Both include Full HD (1080p) recording.
Memory:
Both have 2 GB of RAM
The Lumia has 32GB of Internal memory and takes microSD of up to 65GB external memory.
The Z1 has 16GB of internal memory and takes microSD of up to 32GB external memory to match.
Battery:
Both have a non-removable lithium ion battery with the Nokia’s running 3400 mAH or miliampere.
