With the explosion of virtual reality gaming, most developers are really focusing on bringing a fantastic gaming experience to the living room, but Valve is looking in the opposite direction back toward handheld gaming. After having announced their new “Steam Machines”, Valve is focusing on creating a PC gaming console that brings Valve’s best games to the living room, but their console project has been revealed to extend beyond the living room.
Dubbed “The SteamBoy Project”, Valve’s focus on PC gaming has extended to portable consoles as well. Sounds a lot like a Steam Machine with GameBoy thrown in there and a good relation as well because it really looks like the two are going to have a lot in common in terms of being revolutionary. Valve has announced that the SteamBoy won’t be a top competitor to the PSVita or Nintendo 3DS, but it will be able to play most games on the Steam library with newer games being on lowest to medium settings. This isn’t just an idea or rumor either, Valve has confirmed its existence with a rendered trailer and released system specs on the console posted at the end of this article. Moreover, taking into consideration Valve’s new in-home streaming option, combine that with the Steam Machine and SteamBoy, you have the best and latest games right in your hands where ever you are in the house. Cool idea right? Looks like we have a lot to look forward to this coming 2015.
