More updates have arrived from Gamescom 2014; while this gaming event at Germany has revealed several block-bustling news, this large gathering was not  the place for the Mario-style acrobatic, metroidvania, role-playing game called Ori and the Blind Forest to drastically shine as it did during the big reveal in Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3). However, the developer and publisher, Moon Studios, did not need more excitement for their innovative project because this package has enough nooks and crannies for players to enjoy the gameplay without the extra attention or buzz.

For starters, each area is closed off or inaccessible for players until they obtain the new skill found in each location. For example, the player will eventually need to hone “Bash Attack”; this nifty ability enables the forest sprite to bounce off or through enemies. After acquiring bash attack, the player will then use it throughout the obstacle course or level, but these new accessible routes will challenge the user to master this new move and multiple skills to perform unique stunts in order to explore new territories. Fortunately, interested spectators can view this technique in the never-before-seen video.

In this footage, Graeme Boyd is talking to one of the Moon Studio’s designer, Thomas Mahler. As viewers see Ori’s actions, they can also hear interesting facts about the story, enemies, developing company, bosses, checkpoints or saves, upgrades, etc. Despite moving through various topics as the gameplay demonstration continues,  the speakers repetitively mentioned and stressed the word “challenge.” Instead of wrapping audiences into the coming-of-age story and the traditional setup for long or short boss fights, the whole experience centers the player’s effort to advance in difficult obstacles and moments. By overcoming these puzzling struggles, the players will be satisfied by their own achievement from mastering the forest sprite’s abilities.

Announced earlier, this project will arrive in North America this holiday for the XBox One and personal computer. However, XBox 360 owners will receive this package in 2015.  For more information about this title, please visit the official website.
