Microsoft’s Xbox One system was the best-selling gaming console at American retailers during this past week’s Black Friday sales frenzy according to reports made by retail analysis group InfoScout.
The console’s Black Friday success is most likely attributed to a number of fairly attractive bundles – including Target’s Assassin’s Creed Unity Xbox One bundle and various Microsoft Store deals. It appears that about 90% of console purchases were of those bundled with games.
Interestingly enough, another Microsoft gaming console, the last-generation Xbox 360 system apparently outperformed the Nintendo Wii U by a considerable margin, albeit not as dramatic as the sales gap that can be observed between the Xbox One and PS4.
A blog post on InfoScout’s official blog contains a variety of graphs and statistics clearly showing the above reported information, alongside other information regarding pricing and demographics.

Microsoft Xbox Systems Overshadow Other Consoles
As seen above, the Xbox One accounted for 53% of all console sales made during Black Friday, with the PS4 picking up the slack at 31%. As previously mentioned, the Xbox 360 won out over the Nintendo Wii U, coming in at 9% of total console sales. The Wii U and PS3 made up 6% and 1% of Black Friday gaming system sales, respectively.
Getting a bit deeper into the data, it appears that 66% of the individuals who bought an Xbox One did so with their children in mind, stating that they purchased the console for their kids. Naturally, the Nintendo Wii U appears to be the family-friendly gaming console of the 2014 holiday season. The PS4 is at the tail end with less than half of people saying they bought it for their progeny.
Looking at InfoScout’s 2013 Black Friday reports, the Xbox 360 saw the largest drop in sales, going from a decent 30% to a paltry 9%. However, it appears that Microsoft more than accounted for that difference with a marked increase in Xbox One sales, going up from 31% to a solid 53%. PS4 sales grew from 15% to 31%, while the Nintendo’s Wii U stayed the same at 6%.
It should be noted that InfoScout collected this particular set of data from 180,000 incentivized participants who sent in pictures of their purchase receipts from Walmart, Best Buy, Target, RadioShack, GameStop, et cetera, via their phones.
