Warframe’s experimental six-player mode The Icebind is now live. Digital Extremes shipped it as part of Update 44.1.0 on October 7, 2026. The studio describes the mode as an experiment for both its developers and its players, with the team watching feedback as it keeps building the mode in phases.
The Icebind is built around the Cryobell ceremony at Yuvan Peak. Players travel to the new Earth node, speak to Cephalon Melica, and select Ring the Cryobell to start. Each Cryobell is a mission key with a randomized set of traits: mission type, location, enemy faction, and personal and mission Binds, the modifiers that shape a run. A squad of six votes on which Cryobell to take during a 60-second countdown, and the host’s pick breaks a tie. Cryobells are only spent after a successful extraction.
Level 999 Enemies and Randomized Binds
Enemies in The Icebind sit at Level 999 and above. Missions draw from Survival, Mobile Defense, Excavation, and Disruption across the Origin System, with factions that include the Grineer, Corpus, Infested, The Murmur, and Orokin. There is no public matchmaking at launch, so a group has to form its own six-player squad before ringing the bell.
Rewards and Entry Requirements
Completing a run guarantees a Riven Splicer, an item used in the new Riven Splicing system to combine Riven stats into new traits. After a clear, the squad is taken to Melica’s Glacial Laboratory to unlock chests with earned keys, and a first-time completion also rewards a Cryobell Sumdali. Three Cryobells form each week at the Sunday reset, and players can stockpile up to six. To enter, players must have completed the Angels of the Zariman and Whispers in the Walls quests and unlocked Elite Temporal Archimedea or Elite Deep Archimedea, which requires Rank 5 in the Cavia or Hex syndicate.
From Glacial Defiance to The Icebind
The Icebind was originally planned to ship alongside the Iceblade of Narin update as Glacial Defiance. Digital Extremes delayed it for more development time and renamed it, then outlined the mode in its October 2026 roadmap before the October 7 release.
