Locations in Destiny

by GH Staff

Bungie’s highly anticipated shooter Destiny is coming ever-closer to its September 9th launch date, and today, we’re taking a look at the locations players will be able to explore in the futuristic setting of the game. We’re not talking about a single world. There will be more than one, and diversity is the first word that comes to mind when we’re looking at what the game has to offer.

Earth

Let’s start from our home planet, Earth. This isn’t the world we know today, it’s a post-apocalyptic Earth with a special feel. Nature has been gradually taking back possession of the planet, and players will be facing multiple opponents, from the Fallen to space pirates and scavengers. It’s not a peaceful planet, it’s as hostile as it can get. Still, Destiny aims to recreate an Earth that is different, yet somehow familiar, and so far, it looks great. In contrast to other planets, Earth has a great diversity when it comes to landscapes, so you’ll get to explore various environments.

The Moon

The Moon is a place that has a symbolic significance for human exploration, and that’s exactly what Bungie is going for in Destiny. A futuristic space base is part of what you’ll get to see when stepping in Armstrong’s footsteps. Bungie will exaggerate a bit with the depth of craters or the size of the Earth as seen from the moon (compared to reality), but it’s a sci-fi game after all, and we don’t mind one bit. The Hive is here, which means you’ll find an abundance of aliens to kill or be wary of.

The Tower

A futuristic space station acting as a main base – this is what the Tower is, and that’s how it has been designed. It’s a home for humans, as well as an outpost and a headquarters. Distinct districts will be up for exploring, with different architectural styles (such as the Japanese architecture) and various vendors. Each class in the game will have unique areas, and the Tower will act as your base and home. When you’re not shooting aliens on some world, this is where you’ll be spending your time, upgrading your gear, selling off stuff and relaxing.

Venus

Citadel

Venus is not the actual replica of what scientists today consider the planet to be like. It has a human touch, in the sense that it has a lush fauna and has acted as a human research station. Jungles, oceans, acid and sulfur in the air, combined with volcanic eruptions and lightning storms is what you can expect to see on Venus.

Mars

Sand, sand and then some more sand. And a buried city…which is also most likely sandy. You can expect to empty your boots quite often, I reckon. Destiny’s Mars is now a Cabal occupied planet, but it once hosted an impressive human city. Various creatures inhabit the now sand-covered human-built skyscrapers, and you’ll have plenty to see, explore and of course, fight on Mars.
