For years, the Natsume Inc. has had experiences with the Harvest Moon franchise (commonly known in Japanese context as “Bokujō Monogatari“), so they decided to create a separate entry from Marvelous Entertainment’s “Story of Seasons” this year and title the new creation as Harvest Moon 3D: the Lost Valley for the Nintendo 3DS.  In my previous post about this title, the article basically explained why Natsume wanted to revamp this farming simulator video game series and how these changes are aimed to satisfy new comers and Western audiences who have been wanting and waiting to experience these transformations from the traditional gameplay. Now, we look into the revolutionize aspects with more details in the implemented systems.

The developing staff nicknamed this upcoming project as “Back to Basics” because this company has made significant amount of changes in former systems: activating tools, maximizing the bag’s space, growing crops, etc. In fact, the vice president of operations, Graham Markay, explains the difference in an interview at the GameStop Expo. While he talks to Andrea Rene and Corey Dunn, viewers can watch a live demonstration of the gameplay.

While followers might have already known this, interested spectators should know that players will not need to search for equipment inside the bag before carrying out an operation. Instead, these folks can simply press “A” to cut down a tree when the main character is directly align to it. Additionally, the bag has unlimited amount of space for every item, tool, and crops.

Although these said details were already revealed in previous blogs, the representative also mentions about adjusting the narrative’s beginnings to accommodate tutorials. While these instructional guides help new users to interact with the villagers and operate tools, these steps will become an asset for veterans who will experience the (X, Y, A, B) customization panel for the first time. Basically, the user can change or switch around the buttons’ functions at his or her own preferences. Besides witnessing the actions on the screen (with the inserted dirt customization joke), audiences can listen for other important things.

While this simulator balances between the social and farming life, the Natsume staff has also implemented a request system. Therefore, expect some villagers (especially the bachelors and bachelorettes ) to request specific items like collecting twenty flowers or gathering eggs. By fulfilling their requests, the user can earn more affection from the potential spouses to eventually marry someone and start a family one day. Besides developing a family, the single player has an option to experiment as well.

Unlike predecessors, the seeds planted in high or low elevations will alter the crop. As Mr. Markay explains in the footage, the spinach can either become a “baby” or a “giant” spinach based on the plant’s location and level.  Another attribute that can impact these crops would be the seasons; spring, summer, autumn and winter will also make your animals produce more products if the creatures are living in their favorite season. In order to move these cuddling animals in and outside the barn, future players will need to unlock Calvin.

As a quick reminder, players will also have the free and paid downloadable content when the game ends. Therefore, please keep checking for more information at the Gamer Headlines. Remember though, this family-oriented title will hopefully arrive in late October.
