Yesterday we have spoken about our most anticipated RPGs for 2014, and today we’re doing the same for another genre, mainly First Person Shooters. If you have an insatiable desire to shoot people full of holes, 2014 won’t be a disappointment. All platforms will be getting some love this year, so regardless of what type of a gamer you are, there’s something for everyone. Keep in mind that we’ll only be focusing on games that play from a first-person perspective, 3rd person action and shooter titles will be covered separately. And, as always, these titles are not sorted in any specific order. Let’s get to it, shall we?
[promo title=”Destiny”][/promo]
Well, this name pretty much speaks for itself. If you’re a fan of FPS games, there’s not much we can say about Destiny you don’t already know. Still, assuming you’ve just decided to wake up from your winter hibernation, you’ll be pleased to know that Destiny is one game of huge proportions. Combining the FPS genre with an MMO world and RPG elements, Destiny will cater to a huge crowd. It’s developed by Bungie, so the pedigree for a successful FPS is already there. A beta-phase for Destiny can be expected mid-summer, with the game launching on the 9th of September on the Playstation 3, Playstation 4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One. If you’re into science fiction settings and want to explore vast worlds (including Earth, Mars or even the Moon), you’ll certainly need to keep an eye on Destiny.
[promo title=”Dying Light”][/promo]
Vampires or mummies can only dream to be as popular monsters as zombies have become recently. The fact is, it’s terribly fun to blow the walking dead into a thousands of pieces of rotten flesh. But add some originality to the mix, and you get Dying Light. This is one stunning-looking FPS, powered by the Chrome Engine 6. The main features of the game include free-running, surviving, parkour, melee weapon zombie smashing and a lot more. Of course, the best feature of the game is the dynamic day and night cycle, one that severely affects gameplay, as zombies become a much higher threat during the night. Developed by Techland, Dying Light will be released on the 31st of March 2014 on all major platforms, both next-gen and current gen, as well as the PC.

The Elder Scrolls Online isn’t Bethesda’s only major project this year. FPS lovers will get to see the return of one epic classic from the golden days of Id Software. Wolfenstein: The New Order is being developed on the id Tech 5 engine, and is set in an alternate universe where Nazis have won World War 2. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out who you’ll be shooting. Enemies will be varied enough, from your regular cannon fodder Nazi soldiers, to extremely aggressive robotic dogs or mechs. There hasn’t been much news about the state of development, but Wolfenstein: The New Order is set to release late this year, most likely during the winter. Bethesda has stated that Wolfenstein: The New Order is being developed for the PC, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Playstation 3 and Playstation 4.
[promo title=”Evolve”][/promo]
Now this is one title that has originality going for it…well, for the most part. Turtle Rock Studios’ Evolve will create a unique 4vs1 multiplayer mode that’s definitely a novelty in the industry. The lonely player won’t be at a disadvantage, as he’ll be controlling a monster of epic proportions, a monster that the opposing 4 players (controlling humans with specific roles) will have to take down. It might sound somewhat familiar to Left 4 Dead’s popular multiplayer mode, but here, players will be facing a single opponent instead of multiple player-controlled zombies. The game looks great, and the concept looks even better, and balancement seems to be handled really well, with neither side being under or over-powered. Evolve will be coming out later this year (around fall), on next-gen consoles (PS4 and Xbox One) and the PC.

[promo title=”Lichdom”][/promo]
Lichdom isn’t exactly conventional, either. It’s not even an FPS in the conventional sense of the word, it’s rather a First-Person Caster. That’s because Lichdom isn’t bothering to arm you with fancy weapons. Your own hands become weapons of mass destruction, as you are assuming the role of one bad-ass magic-wielder. Think along the lines of Skyrim, but with the sole focus on casting spells. RPG elements will be included as well, but make no mistake, this is as action-packed as FPS’ can get. Developed for the PC by Xaviant, Lichdom is aiming for a mid-summer 2014 release.
