Elden Ring Map: All 24 Map Fragment Locations

Reveal the complete Elden Ring map with all 19 base-game and five Shadow of the Erdtree map fragments, plus clear routes for underground and secret regions.

On This Page
Quick Answer

The Elden Ring map is completed with 19 map fragments in the base game, plus five more in Shadow of the Erdtree. That means there are 24 map fragments to collect if you want every map section revealed across the Lands Between and the Realm of Shadow.

Most surface fragments sit at tall stone Guide Steles beside major roads. The awkward ones break that pattern: Elden Ring’s underground maps are often looted from corpses, while several late-game and DLC fragments sit behind secret or indirect routes. This guide gives you the complete 24-fragment checklist, the closest useful landmark for each one, and detailed directions for the fragments that are easiest to approach from the wrong side.

GamerHeadlines note: the custom map graphic on this page is an editorial overview that matches the 24-fragment checklist. Use the written routes and in-game map markers for precise navigation.

How the Elden Ring map works

Elden Ring gives you a map screen immediately, but unexplored regions are shown without the detailed terrain art you need for useful navigation. Collecting the appropriate map fragment fills in that region’s roads, cliffs, ruins, structures, and other drawn landmarks.

On the surface, the most useful trick is to inspect the still-obscured map for the small monument symbol. That symbol marks a Guide Stele, the tall stone tablet where the local map fragment is usually found. Surface steles are commonly placed beside roads, so once you can see the symbol, place a beacon on it and follow the road network rather than trying to travel in a straight line across cliffs.

The underground layer is different. Siofra River, Ainsel River, Deeproot Depths, Mohgwyn Palace, and Lake of Rot use their own map-fragment pickups, and several are found on corpses rather than the familiar roadside monolith. If your surface map looks complete but the underground view is still blank, you have not missed a surface stele—you are missing one of those five underground fragments.

Map fragments reveal geography, not every collectible

A fragment reveals the illustrated regional map; it does not turn the map into a complete collectible tracker. Sites of Grace and discovered markers are separate from the terrain artwork. That distinction matters for the broad keyword elden ring map: this page is designed to help you reveal and understand the in-game map, not to pretend that a static article is a fully filterable interactive POI database.

The graphic below gives you a numbered overview of all 24 map-fragment regions covered in this guide: 14 surface fragments in the Lands Between, five underground maps, and five Shadow of the Erdtree regions. Use its legend together with the detailed routes and checklist below.

Limgrave, Weeping Peninsula, and Liurnia map fragments

1. Limgrave, West — Gatefront Ruins

This is the first map fragment most players naturally encounter. From The First Step, follow the road north through the Church of Elleh area toward Gatefront Ruins. The Guide Stele is inside the soldier camp. You do not need to defeat every soldier before taking the fragment; the important landmark is the tall stone tablet in the ruins.

2. Limgrave, East — Mistwood

East Limgrave’s fragment is on the main road through Mistwood. The forest is dense enough that riding directly toward a beacon can put cliffs, giant bears, or trees between you and the target, so following the visible road is the cleaner approach. Once the stele icon appears on the obscured map, use that icon as your destination.

3. Weeping Peninsula — road to Castle Morne

Cross the Bridge of Sacrifice from southern Limgrave and stay on the main road heading toward Castle Morne. The map stele is south of the Castle Morne Rampart Site of Grace. This fragment is worth collecting early because the peninsula’s roads, churches, ruins, and coastline become much easier to read once the terrain art is visible.

4. Liurnia, East — eastern lake road

After entering Liurnia, descend toward the flooded lake and follow the eastern route around Laskyar Ruins. The eastern Liurnia stele sits on the lake-road network around the Liurnia Lake Shore / Laskyar area. Do not confuse it with the northern fragment near Academy Gate Town; Liurnia has three separate map fragments.

5. Liurnia, North — Academy Gate Town

The North Liurnia fragment is one of the easiest to identify because it sits beside the Academy Gate Town Site of Grace in the flooded ruins. If your map around Raya Lucaria is still largely blank, this is usually the missing piece.

6. Liurnia, West — road toward Caria Manor

Move to Liurnia’s western shore and take the road north toward Kingsrealm Ruins and Caria Manor. The fragment is on the western-road route south of Kingsrealm Ruins. Collecting all three Liurnia fragments gives you a much clearer picture of how the lake, academy, western cliffs, and northern manor routes fit together.

Caelid, Dragonbarrow, Altus, Mt. Gelmir, and Leyndell

7. Caelid — southern highway

The Caelid fragment sits along the region’s southern road network, east of the Cathedral of Dragon Communion. The visual contrast makes Caelid easy to recognize on the ground, but its broken terrain and dangerous enemies can make cross-country travel inefficient. Stay on the highway until you reach the stele.

8. Dragonbarrow — northern Caelid road

Dragonbarrow has its own fragment even though it appears as the northern continuation of Caelid. Follow the road through Dragonbarrow, south of the Divine Tower of Caelid and around the Dragonbarrow West area. If southern Caelid is revealed but the northeastern section remains blank, this is the map you need.

9. Altus Plateau — north of Altus Highway Junction

Once you reach Altus Plateau, use the main road and head north from Altus Highway Junction. The stele is directly beside the route, making this a straightforward pickup once the plateau itself is accessible.

10. Mt. Gelmir — the map icon is not the route

Mt. Gelmir is where the simple advice to “ride toward the map icon” stops working. The fragment is west of the Road of Iniquity Site of Grace and below Volcano Manor, but cliffs block the direct approach.

Instead, work through Mt. Gelmir’s mountain path: use the ladders and campsites from the eastern/northern approach, continue upward through the soldier camps, cross the rope bridge, and use the high route around the Full-Grown Fallingstar Beast area. You do not need to defeat that boss just to reach the map route. From the upper area, move west/down toward the Road of Iniquity side and the stele.

If the Mt. Gelmir icon looks close but every direct road dead-ends, that is expected. The problem is elevation, not a missing bridge on your map.

11. Leyndell, Royal Capital — Outer Wall Phantom Tree

The Leyndell map fragment is outside the capital proper, beside the Outer Wall Phantom Tree Site of Grace on the main approach through the capital outskirts. You can reveal the surrounding capital map before completing Leyndell’s legacy-dungeon progression.

Mountaintops of the Giants and Consecrated Snowfield

12. Mountaintops of the Giants, West — Zamor Ruins

After using the Grand Lift of Rold, follow the main route into the Mountaintops. The western fragment is close to the Zamor Ruins area on the road shortly after entering the region. Grab it before pushing deeper east; it makes the next sequence of bridges and mountain routes much easier to parse.

13. Mountaintops of the Giants, East — Giants’ Gravepost

The eastern fragment comes later in the Mountaintops route. Continue through the region until the path takes you across the enormous chain bridge. The map fragment is beside the Giants’ Gravepost Site of Grace on the far side.

14. Consecrated Snowfield — optional secret map

The Consecrated Snowfield is not reached through the normal Grand Lift of Rold progression. You need both halves of the Haligtree Secret Medallion and must use the lift’s secret-medallion option, then clear the Hidden Path to the Haligtree.

Once outside in the snowfield, work north through the low-visibility opening section toward the clearer Inner Consecrated Snowfield area. The fragment is near a large tree south of Ordina, Liturgical Town. If your normal Mountaintops maps are complete but the far western snow region remains blank, the missing issue is access to the Snowfield—not another Mountaintops stele.

Elden Ring underground map fragment locations

The underground map is the most common reason a player can collect every obvious surface stele and still feel that the Elden Ring full map is incomplete. There are five named underground map fragments in the base game.

15. Siofra River — Hallowhorn Grounds steps

You can reach the early part of Siofra River through the Siofra River Well in Mistwood. Progress from the elevator area toward Siofra River Bank and Hallowhorn Grounds. The map fragment is on a corpse at the bottom of the steps leading toward Hallowhorn Grounds rather than on a normal Guide Stele.

This fragment covers the Siofra layer used as you explore the river and the broader underground area. There is no separate map item named “Nokron” that needs to be added to the 19-fragment count.

16. Mohgwyn Palace — Dynasty Mausoleum Entrance

Mohgwyn Palace has its own underground fragment. Follow the area’s blood-marsh/cliffside progression toward Dynasty Mausoleum Entrance. The map is on a corpse among the ruins near the mausoleum approach.

Because Mohgwyn is reached through special progression rather than by simply following the Siofra River road, it is easy to overlook when you are checking why the underground map is incomplete.

17. Deeproot Depths — gazebo in the ruined city

Deeproot Depths is a secret underground region and its fragment is found on a corpse in a gazebo in the ruined-city area around the Nameless Eternal City. One standard route into Deeproot is through Siofra Aqueduct after defeating the Valiant Gargoyles and using the coffin transport beyond the fight.

Once you have reached the main Deeproot area, progress across the giant roots toward the ruined city. The gazebo is the important visual landmark; the fragment is not hidden behind a separate dungeon boss.

18. Ainsel River — Uhl Palace Ruins / Hermit Merchant

The Ainsel River map fragment is on a corpse near the Hermit Merchant in the large Uhl Palace Ruins structure beneath the Malformed Star. If you are looking for the usual glowing stele, stop: this is another corpse pickup.

19. Lake of Rot — near Lake of Rot Shoreside

The Lake of Rot fragment is close to the point where you first reach the lake proper. From Lake of Rot Shoreside, look near the shoreline for the corpse carrying the map. You do not need to cross the entire lake before you can reveal its layout.

Shadow of the Erdtree map: all five fragments

Shadow of the Erdtree adds a separate Realm of Shadow map with five fragments. The names are Gravesite Plain, Scadu Altus, Southern Shore, Rauh Ruins, and Abyss. The first two are relatively close to major progression roads; the final three are more likely to be missed because the correct access route is not obvious from the blank map.

20. Gravesite Plain — before Scorched Ruins

From the DLC starting area, take the road toward the Scorched Ruins. The first map stele is beside the road before the ruins, making Gravesite Plain the natural first fragment in the Realm of Shadow.

21. Scadu Altus — north of Highroad Cross

Once you reach Scadu Altus, follow the main road north from Highroad Cross toward Shadow Keep. The stele is at a road fork before the large Messmer-soldier encampment. If you entered Scadu Altus by an alternate route, work back toward the Highroad Cross / Shadow Keep road rather than searching the entire plateau.

22. Southern Shore — Cerulean Coast

The Southern Shore fragment is tied to the Cerulean Coast route, which is less direct than the main DLC progression. One practical approach is to descend to the Ellac River system from the Gravesite Plain/Castle Front side, follow the river south, and continue until you emerge at Cerulean Coast.

Once you are on the coast, follow the road through the blue-flower fields toward the Cerulean Coast Cross area. The map stele is on this coastal route. The fragment reveals a much larger southern section than the pickup’s immediate surroundings, including connected southern sub-regions.

23. Rauh Ruins — use Rauh Base, not the upper ruins

This is the DLC map fragment most likely to waste your time if you approach it from the obvious high-level Ancient Ruins of Rauh route. The fragment is associated with the lower Rauh Base approach, near Temple Town Ruins.

From the Moorth Ruins area in Scadu Altus, find the cave/tunnel route leading north into the lower valley. Continue through until you reach the Ancient Ruins Base side, then ride west through the valley toward Temple Town Ruins. The map stele stands beside the road before the ruins.

If you are already high in the Ancient Ruins of Rauh and the map icon seems impossibly far below you, you are on the wrong elevation. Return to the lower-base route rather than trying to drop down from the upper legacy path.

24. Abyss — outside the Abandoned Church

The Abyss fragment is not difficult because the stele itself is hidden; it is difficult because Abyssal Woods is hidden behind a long access route.

From Shadow Keep, reach the lower Recluses’ River route, continue down toward Darklight Catacombs, complete the dungeon, and enter Abyssal Woods. From there, follow the region’s route toward the southeastern Abandoned Church. The map stele is directly outside the church entrance.

If the eastern-lower section of the Realm of Shadow remains blank after the other four DLC maps are complete, this is almost certainly the missing fragment.

A low-friction order for revealing the full map

You do not have to collect map fragments in a fixed sequence, and Elden Ring deliberately allows sequence breaks. Still, if your goal is simply to reveal the world without excessive backtracking, the following editorial order tracks natural geographic progression reasonably well:

  1. Limgrave, West
  2. Limgrave, East
  3. Weeping Peninsula
  4. Siofra River if you explore the Mistwood well early
  5. Liurnia, East
  6. Liurnia, North
  7. Liurnia, West
  8. Caelid
  9. Ainsel River when your Liurnia route opens it naturally
  10. Altus Plateau
  11. Mt. Gelmir
  12. Leyndell, Royal Capital
  13. Dragonbarrow
  14. Mountaintops of the Giants, West
  15. Mountaintops of the Giants, East
  16. Consecrated Snowfield once the secret-medallion route is available
  17. Lake of Rot as the Ainsel/Nokstella progression reaches it
  18. Deeproot Depths when its secret access route is open
  19. Mohgwyn Palace when you unlock access

This is a convenience route, not an official level guide. A build, quest choice, teleport, or early exploration detour can change the order dramatically.

Why part of your Elden Ring map is still blank

You are looking at the wrong map layer

If the surface looks complete, check the underground view. Siofra, Ainsel, Deeproot, Mohgwyn, and Lake of Rot have their own fragments. A blank underground region cannot be fixed by collecting another surface stele.

You are missing one of Liurnia’s three fragments

Liurnia is large enough to use East, North, and West fragments. Having the Academy area visible does not mean the entire lake region is revealed.

Caelid and Dragonbarrow are separate fragments

Southern Caelid and northern Dragonbarrow use different map items. If only the northeastern red region remains blank, check the Dragonbarrow road rather than returning to the Caelid stele.

The Consecrated Snowfield is behind a secret route

The normal Grand Lift of Rold path does not place you in the Snowfield. If that area is missing, you need the Haligtree Secret Medallion route and the Hidden Path to the Haligtree.

Rauh’s fragment is below you

In Shadow of the Erdtree, the Rauh Ruins map is collected from the lower Rauh Base route near Temple Town Ruins. Searching the upper Ancient Ruins can leave you directly above the fragment with no practical path down.

The Abyss requires reaching Abyssal Woods first

The blank southeastern DLC section is not solved by circling Shadow Keep at surface level. The route passes through the lower river path and Darklight Catacombs before you reach the woods and the Abandoned Church stele.

How to use the map more effectively after you reveal it

Map fragments do more than remove a blank background. They reveal drawn terrain that helps you reason about Elden Ring’s world before you physically visit every point of interest. Use the completed map as a route-planning tool:

  • Follow roads when elevation is unclear. Mt. Gelmir, the Mountaintops, and parts of the Realm of Shadow punish straight-line navigation.
  • Use beacons for distant objectives. A beacon gives you a compass reference even when the map’s cliffs make the direct path impossible.
  • Mark unresolved discoveries. Use custom markers for locked doors, bosses you want to return to, merchants, or dungeon entrances instead of relying on memory.
  • Check both surface and underground views. Several apparently overlapping places are vertically separated into completely different routes.
  • Treat the drawn terrain as a clue, not GPS. Elden Ring’s map is intentionally illustrative. A road, bridge, cliff edge, ruin silhouette, or ravine can tell you more than the straight-line distance to a marker.

Elden Ring map FAQ

How many map fragments are in Elden Ring?

There are 19 map fragments in the base game. Shadow of the Erdtree adds five, bringing the combined total to 24.

Where is the first Elden Ring map fragment?

The first fragment most players collect is Map: Limgrave, West at Gatefront Ruins. It sits at the Guide Stele inside the soldier camp north of the early Church of Elleh route.

Can you see map fragment locations before revealing a region?

On surface regions, the Guide Stele symbol can appear on the obscured map before you pick up the fragment. That makes the monument icon one of the best navigation tools when entering a new region.

Why are there no map pillars for some underground areas?

The underground maps do not always follow the surface pattern. Siofra River, Ainsel River, Lake of Rot, Mohgwyn Palace, and Deeproot Depths include fragment pickups associated with corpses or specific underground landmarks rather than the standard roadside Guide Stele.

Is there a separate Nokron map fragment?

There is no additional map-fragment item named Map: Nokron in the 19-item base-game map inventory. Nokron is part of the underground geography associated with the Siofra-side map progression.

Is there a separate Crumbling Farum Azula map fragment?

There is no separate named Farum Azula fragment in the 19-item map inventory. The base-game fragment list ends with the same 19 named map items covered above.

Do you need every map fragment to finish the game?

No. Map fragments are navigation tools, not a requirement for reaching the ending. You can progress without collecting them, but revealing the terrain makes route planning significantly easier.

Is this an interactive Elden Ring map?

No. This is a static GamerHeadlines map-fragment and navigation guide. It is designed to reveal the in-game map quickly and explain the routes that a flat screenshot cannot show. A true interactive tracker is a different tool because it needs filters, searchable points of interest, and persistent progress tracking.
